JOB TITLE:  Painter Night

DEPARTMENT:  Maintenance Department

REPORTS TO:  Director of Maintenance

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Full-time

SALARY: Based on Experience, $16.07 - $19.19 per hour

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of a union,  private (in-house), or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work required; Associates Degree preferred

Experience: Minimum of eight years as a journeyman-level painter in a residential, commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, both interior and exterior. 

Skills: Must be able to prepare surfaces for painting and finishing; apply undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mix and match paints and finishes; perform soda and water blasting; advise in the selection and storage of painting materials.  

 

 

SUMMARY: The Painter performs all types of commercial painting work; prepares various surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, burning, sanding, sandblasting or other means as necessary; mixes, matches, and blends various paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, stains and special protective coatings to achieve desired  color, consistency, and drying properties; caulks, putties, cements or plasters holes and cracks; erects and uses ladders, scaffolding, and lifting equipment as required; paints buildings, structures, equipment, and furniture using brush, spray gun or other applicator.

  1. Must be able to do material take-offs, develop material orders, verify materials  received at time of delivery and provide onsite protection of materials
  2. Job site supervision including, protection, cleanliness, jobsite safety and security,  as well as providing protection of District property and equipment
  3. Apply protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, epoxy, waterproofing and heat resistant finishes and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other structures
  4. Wash, scrape, sands, and/or smoothes interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying other related materials
  5. Clean and maintain equipment, paint mixing area, and work area
  6. Operate compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other  small power equipment
  7. Install, repair, and maintain drywall, wall texturing, and ceiling acoustic texturing
  8. Operates heavy lift equipment including scissor lifts, and boom swing stage to  heights of 80 feet
  9. Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces  of work area for Painters and others
  10. Apply paints, stains, surface preparatory materials, and undercoating materials to  a variety of surfaces, as appropriate, and according to Materials Safety Data Sheets ensuring compliance with hazardous materials guidelines
  11. Prepare and implement line striping layouts for parking lots according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  12. Creation and application of graphics and signage layouts according to various athletics requirements
  13. Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade
  14. Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling (safely stores and labels all  materials), application, and disposal
  15. Identification, safe handling, and appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials
  16. Track work orders and communicate status to appropriate personnel
  17. Assist in management of warranties
  18. Provide for customer satisfaction and total quality control
  19. Understand Building Code Requirements as they pertain to painters 

ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR:

The employee is expected to be self motivated and to be productive without direct supervision. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while working within schedules. Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Must be responsible, reliable, and task-oriented. Must have a team-oriented attitude with good communication and customer relations skills. Able to clearly explain steps, provide clear directions, and answer questions about construction processes to employees and subcontractors when necessary. General care and cleanliness of the issued district vehicle is expected as well as keeping all district tools and materials secure. Must follow all  safety rules, practice safe work habits and use appropriate safety equipment. The Painter must be available to work off shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to  emergency calls immediately.

 

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance. Must be able to work second shift which is typically 2:00pm to 10:30pm.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Position requires performance of duties in wet, humid hot and cold conditions (non weather), work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places and in enclosed  areas; exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals possible; work may be performed outdoors; position has exposure to noise, vibration and risk of  electrical shock. Normal hazards can be expected as associated with the construction  environment.

 

PHYSICAL STANDARDS: 99% of time is spent working at a job site. Normal hazards associated with construction environment. Job requires the ability to perform tasks in all areas and aspects of a construction project. Requires ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 30 feet, and crawl for distances of 50  feet. Job requires the ability to work with tools, lumber and materials. Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs for 50 feet is required. Standing in place for long periods of time. Walking as required to access equipment and perform responsibilities. Sitting when required. Use of hands to do fine finger work. Climbing and balancing. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Talking and hearing as to communicate concerning job-related duties as assigned. Smell. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) with or without correction. Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) with or without correction. Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
