Role Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Governance Lead Microsoft Purview to drive enterprise data governance, cataloging, classification, lineage, and policy management using the Microsoft Purview platform. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and operationalizing governance capabilities that improve data discoverability, stewardship, compliance, and trust across the organization.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Microsoft Purview, data governance frameworks, metadata management, data classification, data lineage, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the implementation and ongoing management of Microsoft Purview across enterprise data assets.

• Define and maintain the organization's data governance operating model, including roles, responsibilities, workflows, and standards.

• Configure and manage Purview capabilities such as data catalog, business glossary, classifications, sensitivity labels, lineage, scans, collections, and access policies.

• Partner with data owners, stewards, compliance, security, legal, technology, and business teams to align governance processes with business and regulatory needs.

• Establish metadata standards, naming conventions, stewardship workflows, and data quality expectations.

• Drive adoption of the data catalog and governance processes across business and technical users.

• Support data discovery, classification, privacy, retention, and compliance initiatives.

• Develop dashboards, metrics, and reporting to track governance maturity, data catalog coverage, stewardship activity, and policy adherence.

• Collaborate with data engineering and architecture teams to integrate Purview with Azure, Power BI, SQL Server, Databricks, Snowflake, and other enterprise platforms.

• Identify governance gaps and recommend improvements to policies, controls, and platform configuration.

• Provide training, documentation, and guidance to data stewards and business users.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, metadata management, or data strategy.

• Hands-on experience implementing or administering Microsoft Purview.

• Strong understanding of data governance concepts, including data ownership, stewardship, lineage, cataloging, classification, and policy management.

• Experience working with cloud data platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with privacy, compliance, security, and regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX, or industry-specific standards.

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Ability to translate technical data governance capabilities into business value.

• Experience developing governance documentation, operating models, and adoption plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Microsoft Azure or Purview-related certifications.

• Experience with Power BI, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Snowflake, or SQL Server.

• Experience with data quality, master data management, or data privacy tools.

• Prior experience leading enterprise-wide governance programs.

• Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or similar data management frameworks.
